I started following entrepreneur Ali Brown a few years ago when she was known as the “E-Zine Queen.” [I am not an affiliate of Ali Brown or any of her companies] The self-made millionaire started out as a poorly paid copywriter. Subsequently she branched out on her own and began giving copywriting tips via an email newsletter. Demand for her ezine increased and she saw a new opportunity—teaching small business owners how to use ezines to increase their revenues.
Ali has been candid about credit card debt she incurred in her twenties. She also revealed that in her thirties she was approximately $30,000 in debt in the aftermath of her divorce. Now Ali runs a burgeoning media empire, which includes business coaching, Ali magazine, products and a possible television program.
Given her rise from struggling underearner to multi-millionaire entrepreneur I think that she has some financial wisdom to impart to other women. Recently Ali released a podcast that revealed her “7 Mantras for Being a Money Magnet“:
1) I am responsible for my financial success and no one else.
2) I learn about making money from wealthy people.
3) I take good care of my money.
4) I see opportunities in everything.
5) I play to win big.
6) I love to receive, especially money.
7) I enjoy giving money to others.

When Hurricane Katrina hit several years ago people in Louisana had to evacuate their homes. Occaisonally towns in California are beset with brush fires. Other parts of the United States experience floods and tornados. Are you prepared if you had to leave your house in a hurry? Do you have an emergency kit—containing your important documents?
While many of us don’t forsee having to flee our homes it’s a possibility, particularly if you live in an apartment building or in a townhouse (rowhouse). If your neighbor’s apartment or townhouse catches on fire, there’s a high likelihood that your apartment or townhouse will also become engulfed in the flames. If you don’t have access to money, your proof of identity, and your insurance information it could take you weeks to get replacements documents. In the meantime, you have no cash, your bills not also not being paid and you can’t get health care, including prescriptions.
Should you need to evacuate your home, you need to take your most important documents with you. Prepare your emergency kit by packing a portable, fireproof safe or cashbox with some cash or travellers checks, a credit or debit card and a few blank checks. Be sure to add the following papers. (You should make photocopies of these documents and keep in a bank safety deposit box or with a trusted relative or friend to hold for you)
Your most important documents, including your will, Social Secutiry card, birth certificate, homeowner or renter’s insurance policy, passport, health records (prescriptions and health insurance information)
You bank and investment account numbers
Telephone numbers of people you would contact in an emergency (including your insurance agent and creditors)
Photocopies of your driver’s license and your credit cards
An extra set of house key and car keys
To paraphrase an old saying, “It’s better to have an emergency kit and not need it than to need an emergency kit and not have it.
